Corporate Branding
As a freelance consultant (dba CopeCom), I develop brand strategy and messaging for clients in a broad range of industries. In the business services sector, I played a leadership role in developing the brand platform for Nationwide Better Health, an integrated health and productivity services company launched by Nationwide, a Fortune 100 company based in Ohio.

As part of my work in the pharmaceutical sector, I developed content for a suite of integrated communications materials in support of an internal branding program conducted by the R&D group within Cephalon, Inc., a leading international biopharma company based in Pennsylvania.

Working in the technology sector, I recently helped develop B2B messaging for the launch of the Sony PlayStation Network service and the new brand voice for Microsoft Windows.

In addition, I am currently serving as a Senior Manager in Corporate Communications at Qualcomm, the world leader in next-generation mobile technologies and the largest largest producer of chipsets for advanced wireless communications. In this capacity, I spearheaded development of the company's corporate message platform and am the content development team leader on a wide range of high level communications programs designed to support company communicators worldwide.

As VP for Strategic Communications at Santa Monica-based Baker | Brand Communications, I was invited into the inner circle at client companies ranging from regional smallcap startups to major international brands. My job was to ferret out the core story and pass on my findings to the creative team. As part of bringing brands to life, I facilitated naming exercises, created taglines and developed core messaging.

Copywriting
As the content development person at a high-end design and branding agency, I spearheaded the research process and collaborated on design concepting for all manner of integrated brand communications assignments. From advertising and marketing collateral systems to posters, websites and videos, I helped clients bring compelling stories to market.

Writing for Annual Reports
An experienced writer of corporate annual reports, I have written ten consecutive annuals for Qualcomm. Based in San Diego, California, Qualcomm is a Fortune 500 company and a member of the S&P 500 Index. The company pioneered the commercial development of CDMA, the technology that serves as the basis for the worldwide standard for the next generation of digital wireless communications.

Public Relations (non-profit)
As the director of public relations for the American Academy of Pediatrics, I was responsible for directing a fast-paced, high volume in-house PR shop for a national medical association representing 53,000 pediatricians in 66 chapters. The Academy is an organization of pediatricians dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.

Magazine Publishing
As project manager in the division of public education for the American Academy of Pediatrics, I worked with joint venture media partners to publicize the policies of the nation’s foremost authority on child and adolescent health. As liaison to the New York-based publisher KIII (formerly Cahners Publishing), I coordinated editorial review and marketing for two parenting magazines distributed in pediatric offices nationwide under the Healthy Kids brand.

Writing for Television
My intro to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) was as the freelance scriptwriter for their weekly TV series. I wrote the first 13 half-hours of The
Healthy Kids Show. Subsequently, the AAP hired me as project manager for the series. In that capacity, I earned a credit as script editor for 22 additional half hours. My work on this show was acknowledged by an award from the American Medical Writers Association.

Public Affairs Radio
As a program specialist for the Chicago Public Library, I was responsible for promoting literacy through area media and volunteer organizations. In addition, I served as the producer / host for two weekly radio programs. My author interview program, In Good Company, featured 217 half-hour programs, aired in Chicago and syndicated on NPR affiliates in Kentucky, Iowa and North Carolina.

Public Information Officer
As manager for the office of public information for the Chicago Public Library, I served as media spokesperson for the largest centralized public library system in the nation. Reporting to the commissioner, I coordinated publicity for 90 libraries and supervised a staff of six. We worked with the Mayor’s office on high profile press events and our office also provided research to national talk show hosts including Phil Donahue and Oprah.
